Hot coffee, cozy cuddles, oversized sweaters, cute pups, and champagne pops?! This downtown Kansas City winter engagement session Had. It. All.
When planning Alan and Tara's engagement session, it was important for the couple to stay true to themselves. Tara told me"We are pretty casual people! I would live in leggings/sweats and oversized hoodies if that was an okay outfit for a school counselor, sadly it's not. Alan lives in jeans. Therefore, I think we are going to do a casual look." - I love so much that Tara and Alan chose to lean into who they were and what they loved. We also discussed what locations would be best to show off their relationship. Ultimately we landed on their local favorite coffee shop in the Crossroads downtown Kansas City, Mildreds. The crossroads offers such an eclectic array of photo backdrops and even a little bit of hidden green space so pups can be included too. Our next couple of stops were inspired by their love of Kansas City and books!

With this love of books and KC, we chose the downtown Kansas City Library and an amazing West Side lookout. Both of these locations showcased what they love and made for such unique and amazing downtown winter engagement photo backdrops.
I love everything about this session with Tara and Alan because it shows when you stop to think about "what makes you, you", the creativity for your engagement session can really be turned on. Their gallery ended up being one of my most unique sessions of the year because we incorporated so many things that screamed "them". While yes it's beautiful and fun to photograph couples in stunning locations with outstanding architecture or sprawling nature, it can be even more fun and beautiful when photographing couples in their very own element.
